Much Love for the Sea!

‘Much Love for the Sea!’ is an extension of the Department of Undersea Investigations, developed from a desire to celebrate and document the undersea world along the coastline of Western Australia. The Department of Undersea Investigations as a project is generating an ongoing archive, not only documenting the world below the surface, but also exploring the relationship that we share with the life under the sea.

SCUBA diving provides the closest opportunity to becoming more than just a visitor in the curious environment that lies beneath the surface of the sea. Documenting time spent underwater photographically, images are then translated into cyanotype prints and watercolour paintings. Cyanotype prints are a chemical printing process utilising ultraviolet rays from the sun. The frames in which these images are presented have been collected, in order to enhance the archival nature of the project and as such allow the project to exist as a remnant of the past, created in the present and drawing focus to the importance of the future of our oceans.

This body of work was exhibited at Palette, in North Fremantle between the 12ths of May and the 7th of June 2023.
